This was an idea I developed to run a training day. My idea was to write the materials and then suggest to someone that I could run it for them. I was so overtaken with my thoughts of doing what I could to help them that I ignored the obvious.
The whole thing was so simple that by they would be offended by my suggestion. It would be a case of looking like come on do not be stupid this is what you should be doing so why are you not doing it already.
It blew up when I realised that I was being honest and open with them but they struggled with me doing that. I had overwhelmed them and blown up the relationship. Their reaction made me realise that I was in the wrong place and that nothing would come of me being there.
I put a printed copy of the materials I created into a folder and put it on the shelf. It had joined the library of things that I could draw on in the future.
Things like this are not a waste of time. They are a learning experience. I have put some thought into a structure and practised that skill. I have a set of materials that could be adapted for another audience in the future.
This short course had a number of aims
- To help attendee review their past and come to terms with it.
- To support attendees as they thought about what they could do in the future.
- To help attendees develop a skelton outline for their vision.
What comes next?
I found the old post about this that had the bare bones of what the course covered and have updated it. I have thought about what the vision covers and wondered of I could turn it into a series of presentations to publicise what I am doing? There is a whole methodlogy of doing this called challenges. Ot should I turn it into an introductory or taster course. Or could I use them for a challenge and then use the recordings from the challenge to create a taster course.
I don’t know as I write this as my mind and work schedule are so overwhelmed with things that I could or should be doing that it is hard to know what to do next. One thing I do know is this idea will be added to a long jobs to do list and may one day make its way to the top of the list.
