Lily the Pink Ministries Community Interest Company
This company was formed to provide a legal framework for the activities I have been engaged in that are aimed at benefiting others. The two groups mentioned in the set up documentation are people in mental distress and anyone who can access the online courses.
HELPING THOSE IN MENTAL DISTRESS
The aim is to provide both courses and practical support for people in mental distress. To start with the aim is to help people to learn to improve the way that they think and therefore overcome the issues that are creating their mental distress.
PROVIDING ONLINE COURSES
It uses the same course management software that many schools, colleges and universities use. The first course that was set up on this system is Surviving a Household Emergency.
SURVIVING A HOUSEHOLD EMERGENCY
The first stage of this course is to look at what risks your household could face e.g. power cut. The next stage is to look at different issues that could arise in an emergency situation and ways of being prepared so that they can be handled better. These issues include home hazards, medical and health considerations, communication and, financial and legal matters. The third stage is to look at particular scenarios that could arise such as fire, difficult weather conditions (both winter and summer) and flooding and develop plans to be able to cope with these situations. Learners are encouraged to complete an emergency planning template as part of the course which can be submitted as an assignment if they want a certificate of course completion.
OTHER HOME BASED COURSES
It is hoped to do a further course along the lines of Surviving a Household Emergency that looks at issues like storing food, ensuring you have enough safe water to drink and alternative means of sanitation. Another one that could be done is household security which will use the material that I researched while involved in a community safety project.
COURSES TO SUPPORT THOSE IN MENTAL DISTRESS
One of the reasons why people struggle is organising their money. This links with one of the courses mentioned on the course preparation page is Making the Pounds Meet the Ends, which looks at ways of living more economically. Another course that has been started is Doing God\’s Work God\’s Way which uses the research that I did while setting up Lily the Pink Ministries CIC.
Lily the Pink Crochet
Many circumstances came together in 2005 and 2006 which that meant that I had to make a series of considerable readjustments to my life. It was during that period that I started making some jewellery and sold some of it to people I worked with. That contract came to an end the same week as I found out about the New Entrepreneurs Scholarship programme (NES).
The way I found out about NES was surprising. I had a dream that I was in a prison because I was not doing enough job hunting on Bank Holiday Monday. I had a look on the Internet to find some addresses to write some speculative letters to I and while I was doing this found the information for the the NES programme. I made an enquiry on the Monday had a response on the Tuesday, an interview on the Thursday and started the course the following Tuesday. Talk about organising things quickly.
CRAFT FAIRS
Lily the Pink Crochet is about mixing my crochet skills together with a variety of my other skills to make jewellery. I took it to various craft markets.
JEWELLERY PARTIES
I am available to do jewellery parties within a reasonable travelling distance of my home.
YARN TOGETHER
This is an idea I had to bring people together to learn and practise crochet.
